20 years ago, Peek-A-Boo was a successful Swiss ska band. Now they are back on stage with an almost completely new line-up. Intoxicating, fresh and cheeky. They show different dazzling sides of «modern ska». With a lot of pep, energy and courage for crossover. In English, Spanish, French and dialect.

INTERVIEWS
Koni, you are the drummer and bandleader and you have Peek-A-Boo revived. How so?
After many different formations, I really wanted to play ska again. So nothing was more obvious than restarting Peek-A-Boo. Today I am the only member of the original line-up because the original band members had to step down due to moving away, job, family or other reasons.
How was the band back then?
Peek-A-Boo was known for rousing, danceable ska that spread a good mood. We played all over Switzerland and neighboring countries: in Abarth Zurich, TabTab Schaffhausen, Salzhaus and Gaswerk Winterthur, Sedel Lucerne, NED Montreux and in the "Musikscene CH" of the SRF.
What can we expect from the new Peek-A-Boo?
Thanks to the excellent cast and the great singer, we have developed stylistically. We play a mix of known covers and new originals.

SKA
Ska is a fast-paced style of music and dance that originated in Jamaica in the 1960s with the emphasis on the off-beat (as opposed to the down-beat). The origins can be found in boogie woogie and big band jazz. The best known bands were the Skatalites and Toots and the Maytals with a large brass section. Ska became world famous in 1964 with Minnie Small's hit song "My Boy Lollipop".
After Ska was replaced by rocksteady and then reggae, it fell into oblivion. In the 1970s Ska experienced a revival in England with the so-called Two Tones bands (bands with white and black members) such as The Selector, Madness, The Specials and The English Beat. The new Ska was louder, more guitar-dominated and more urban.
After that, Ska mixed with other musical genres to punk Ska or Ska Punk, Ska Jazz, Cuban Ska, etc. Ska is in the meantime represented on all continents and countries. It is sung in the respective national language played all over the world: in Hungary and in Portugal, in Latin America and in Indonesia , in Tokyo and in New York.
In Switzerland, Ska has been cultivated for many years by bands such as Rude Tins, Skaladdin, Open Season, Kalles Kaviar, Scutluck, Nguru, AlaSKA, patSKAts, Huge Puppies, the Ventilators and many more.
What is Modern Ska?
Ska no longer moves within narrow limits. It combines older genres like Swing and Bossa Nova, but also newer trends like House and Neo Soul.
